St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center in Texas recently announced the start of construction on its $53.1 million expansion. The expansion will include two additional floors with a 34-bed patient care unit, as well as four additional operating rooms and support spaces.

The capital expansion is part of a $953 million investment in Central Texas healthcare infrastructure that St. David’s HealthCare announced in February.

The medical center’s two additional floors will include a fifth floor for a 34-bed intermediate care unit and a fourth floor for future expansion. A one-story addition to the hospital’s existing surgical suite will provide space for two equipped operating rooms and space for two future operating rooms.

The expansion will provide the hospital with more operating room space to grow surgical specialties including neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic and robotic services, among other complex specialties. Upon completion of the expansion, the medical center will have more than 200 beds and 11 operating rooms in use, with space for two additional rooms in the future.

Construction is estimated to be completed in 2023.
