Technology's impact on hospital hygiene is growing, according to an article on the McKnights website. A new survey says modernized healthcare equipment can have a significant impact.

Many healthcare institutions are implementing Internet of Things (IoT) innovations to help better manage environmental services functions.

The technology collects data and combines it to improve efficiencies.

For instance, UC Irvine Health, Stanford Medical Center and Augusta Medical Center have installed sensor-equipped dispensers in healthcare facility restrooms that process data regarding supply levels to keep staff informed on refill needs for items like  paper towels, hand soap and hand sanitizer.

The system also monitors traffic to each dispenser location.
