The Center for Health Design welcomes new members to Board of Directors

The Center for Health Design announced that two new members have been selected to serve on the organization’s board of directors; Avein Saaty-Tafoya, MD, MBA, HCM, EDAC, President and CEO of Adelante Healthcare and Tom Jung, RA, Thomas M. Jung Consulting, LLC.

Avein Saaty-Tafoya, the 2014 Changemaker Award recipient, is an inspirational leader with 27 years of healthcare experience in primary care, public health, hospitals and health plans, advocating healthcare equality for all. Her mission is to improve the health of the underserved through the patient experience and by addressing the social determinants of health. As the CEO of Adelante Healthcare, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center with eight sites, she oversees delivery of comprehensive primary care services within an accredited patient centered medical home model to over 40,000 patients in the Phoenix area. She opened the first LEED Platinum Certified Community Health Center in the nation in Mesa, AZ in 2012. Her creativity as a fine artist along with her clinical and business skills, give her a unique perspective as an emerging leader and motivated her to complete several Pebble research projects, become EDAC certified, and co-Chair The Center for Health Design's Research Coalition.

Tom Jung has over 30 years in the healthcare design field, with a primary focus on regulatory compliance and coordination. Spending 24 years with the New York State Department of Health’s Certificate of Need Program, Tom directed the effort for 16 of those years while overseeing the review and approval of more than $2 billion dollars of new projects annually. He is a founding member of The Center for Health Design’s Environmental Standards Council, and attributes that first and ongoing experience as a major influence on the nature of his communication with the designers and providers seeking state licensure. Tom has also been intimately involved with development of the Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities since 1997, including Facilities Guidelines Institute board membership between 2003 and 2014, and served as CEO of the Facility Guidelines Institute for one year, stepping down in February 2015.

“I am excited to welcome the Center’s newest board members who bring distinct, relevant perspectives from different disciplines within our industry. Avein and Tom have demonstrated throughout their careers the kind of commitment to socially conscious solutions that are both evidence-based and innovative.  This kind of character demonstrates an alignment with our mission and best meets the culture of our board", stated Rosalyn Cama, Board Chair of The Center for Health Design. “As The Center sharpens our focus on moving healthcare forward, we are very glad to have both Avein and Tom join our team of thought leaders and provide their invaluable insights for our organization to continue to evolve and provide the industry with key resources and tools.”
