The certified energy manager’s role becoming more important in healthcare, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.

The new CEM designation has been created in response to the growing need to manage complex energy projects.

A CEM’s role in healthcare is to lead the energy management process, developing, promoting and maintaining a systemwide energy management plan.

“One of the ways I help our organization maintain a focus on energy is by developing and sending out reports to not only the operations supervisors but also to our upper management,” said Randolph Haines, CEM, energy manager for Philadelphia's Thomas Jefferson University and its hospital.
