Police reports in Richmond, Va., show that a Coach bag, wallets, credit cards and cell phones have all been stolen from patients' rooms or hospital waiting areas, recently, according to an article on the ABC8 News website.
And it's not just handbags and cell phones the crooks are snatching. They're also making off with patient's clothes, items like leggings, boots, furs — even a bra. Nearly 200 thefts reported at area hospitals in last two years.
More than a hundred of those crimes happened at VCU Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
If VCU Police sees an increase in reported thefts in the hospital, we will increase hospital patrols, have officers speak with staff in areas that have had thefts and use other forms of messaging to remind staff about securing valuables, according to a hospital statement.
