Three Boston hospitals fined for letting TV shows film on site

Each organization is required to re-train its workforce

The Health and Human Services Department's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) fined three Boston-based hospitals a total of $999,000 after they allowed the TV show "Save My Life: Boston Trauma" to film on premise, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.

Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital were cited for potential HIPAA violations.

This was the second HIPAA case involving an ABC medical documentary series. In 2016, OCR fined New York-Presbyterian Hospital over the filming of "NY Med."

Each organization is required to re-train its workforce, including a review of OCR's guidelines for disclosing health information to film and media.
