Tips To Avoid PPE Cross-contamination

Improperly donning and doffing personal protective equipment can spread germs

Healthcare facilities have always been high-risk environments for cross-contamination. As a result, custodians working in these facilities are used to donning personal protective equipment (PPE). Thanks to the coronavirus, more attention has been paid to proper PPE than ever before in recent memory.

Facility cleaning managers should be training employees on the proper steps to don and doff PPE, according to an article on CleanLink.com. Gloves are especially problematic as they are often last to be put on, but first to come off.

Jan/san distributors in the article recommend washing hands prior to wearing gloves and again after removing them. Custodians should change gloves every hour.

It’s also critical that custodians don’t cross-contaminate during the removal process. Read the full article to learn more proper handling of gloves and masks.

PPE supply chains have been under scrutiny as stock runs low as the pandemic worsens.
