U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Selects JE Dunn Construction and Hoefer Wysocki Architects for Project

The United States Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District has hired JE Dunn Construction and architectural design partner Hoefer Wysocki Architects (Leawood, Kan.) to design and construct a $67.5 million, 170,000-square-foot Medical/Dental Clinic to support the 82nd Medical Group at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. JE Dunn is ranked as the fifth largest healthcare contractor by Modern Healthcare Magazine. The company is headquartered in Kansas City and has three offices in Texas, as well as one in nearby Oklahoma City. The JE Dunn Construction + Hoefer Wysocki Architects team has been active in the U.S. Air Force Health Care Modernization Program administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for nearly ten years. This project, while not directly part of that program, represents the team’s 18th military healthcare project during that time.

The medical/dental clinic will include a 900-square-foot ambulance shelter and a 10,000 square-foot Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System (JBAIDS) space. The project will be designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and will be completed in 37 months.

The 82nd Medical Group provides health services for 19,500 beneficiaries and provides medical care for more than half of the Air Force’s annual throughput of Airman in Training, managing an average daily student load of 4,560 personnel.

Other design partners on the project include ME Group (Overland Park, Kan.) providing mechanical and electrical engineering services, Bob D. Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) as the structural engineer, Henderson Engineers (Lenexa, Kan.) as the fire protection consultant, BHC Rhodes (Overland Park, Kan.) as the civil engineer, EDI (Atlanta, Ga) as the low voltage designer of record, and Dimensional Innovations (Overland Park, Kan.) is the signage for the project
