USP 795 requirements have relevance for healthcare facilities

The requirements are important for professionals involved in pharmacies

For those who own, operate or design hospital pharmacies and privately owned pharmaceutical compounding facilities, the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention standards  USP 795, Pharmaceutical Compounding — Nonsterile Preparations, are lesser known, but still important, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

USP 795 had governed non-sterile compounding of both hazardous and nonhazardous drugs. USP 800 now governs the hazardous compounding.

There are three categories of non-sterile compounding: Simple, moderate and complex.

This standard does have wide applicability, since non-sterile compounding of non-sterile drugs is performed widely by both hospital pharmacies and private pharmaceutical compounding facilities, the article said.
