Leaders from The University of Texas System, UT Health San Antonio, Mays Cancer Center, as well as donors, elected officials and other distinguished guests gathered for a dedication event for the new $472 million UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital in San Antonio’s Medical Center.

Hailed as “a place of firsts,” the new eight-story hospital opening on Dec. 10, will be the only facility of its kind in South Texas where patients will have access to therapies and expertise unavailable elsewhere, including access to top specialists and pioneering therapies, especially in cancer treatment.

UT Health San Antonio’s new $472 million Multispecialty and Research Hospital aims to be a hub for groundbreaking medical treatment, research and training. With 144 beds, the hospital will focus on advanced cancer care, including clinical trials, CAR-T cell therapy and stem-cell treatments. It will also specialize in complex surgeries, preventive care and outreach for high-risk populations.

Connected to the Mays Cancer Center by the Tom C. Frost Skybridge, this facility embodies a patient-centered design with natural light and family support spaces. Launching in stages, the hospital will provide opportunities for medical trainees and support UT Health’s upcoming merger with UTSA to form a premier global research institution.
