SEIU Healthcare Minnesota is planning a one-day strike outside Mayo Clinic Health System's Albert Lea campus on Dec. 19, according to an article on the Post Bulletin website.
Both SEIU and Mayo are alleging unfair labor practices.
The strike will include 79 SEIU members employed as certified nursing assistants, housekeepers, sterile processing staff and utilities and materials management workers. They'll be joined by six skilled maintenance workers who have been working without a contract for more than two years.
At issue is a clause that allows Mayo to change employee benefits without the union's approval. Mayo describes it as "standard contract language," common among other bargaining units.
