Union says VA facilities should have armed security

The 600 officers protecting VA campuses in California are unarmed

Following killings at a veterans home in Yountville, a union representing California law enforcement officers wants security personnel at state hospitals and veterans facilities to be armed, according to an article on the Fox News website.

The California State Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) said the 600 officers protecting VA campuses in California are unarmed.

The CSLEA criticized VA administrators for not providing firearms to the officers, who wear uniforms similar to those of sheriff's deputies.

The union reportedly worked to persuade the VA to arm officers under an existing law, but results have yet to materialize, the article said.
