University Hospitals faces lawsuits over lost embryos

Two couples who lost embryos due to the storage tank malfunction have sued Cleveland-based University Hospitals, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.

The temperature in a liquid nitrogen freezer at the UH Fertility Center at the University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, Ohio, unexpectedly rose.

The storage tank had an audible alarm sounding that would have alerted workers to a temperature change, but no staff were in the facility overnight.

Hospital officials are still investigating the cause of the problem.
