There are currently nearly 7,100 urgent care centers operating in the U.S., according to an article on the Building Design & Construction website.
According to a Urgent Care Association of America 2015 survey, these facilities are open an average 4,100 hours a year (equivalent to about 12 hours a day); 96 percent are open seven days a week.
One-third (34.1 percent) are located in shopping centers or strip malls; another third (33.2 percent) are in freestanding buildings. The rest are in medical office buildings (19.1percent) and mixed-used facilities (13.6 percent). Physician groups and investors own the greatest share of urgi-clinics, nearly 40 percent, the article said.
Urgent care is about as close to retail as healthcare gets and their design is focused on branding.
