Walmart is planning to transform extra parking lot space into "town centers" in several states, according to an article on the Business Insider website.
The centers will include restaurants, health clinics, bowling alleys, food trucks, fuel stations and more.
A few town center projects are already underway at Walmart stores in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Oregon, Texas and Washington.
Walmarts might start to resemble open-air malls surrounded by chains like Shake Shack, Chipotle and Orangetheory Fitness, the article said.
