When should you do a risk assessment?

Blog discusses whether a problem may pop up with breakroom toaster

A blog on the HC Pro website offered a format for documenting the risk assessment when a surveyor says a risk assessment is sufficient when a breakroom toaster was cited in a survey due to the open heating element.

If a surveyor indicates that a risk assessment would be an acceptable strategy, you should consider that there may be no specific regulatory guidance for the subject at hand, the article said.

Risk assessment components include, among other things:

• An issue statement or recap of what the condition or practice that has been identified as being problematic

• A regulatory analysis that reviews what is specifically indicated in the regulations

• A review of safety, quality and risk Management data for the facility's records
