Windover Construction Announces Completion of Care Dimensions Hospice House

Windover Construction, an award-winning construction management firm building spaces that create memorable experiences, today announced the completion of the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, Mass. The29,127-square-foot inpatient hospice facility was designed with the patient in mind, providing the medical care they need in a comfortable, home-like environment. The 18-bed facility offers patients and their families skilled medical care, comfort, emotional and spiritual support.

Seeing a critical need in the MetroWest area, Care Dimensions, now the largest provider of hospice services in the state, looked to Windover Construction for the preconstruction and construction of an innovative facility that would serve as a vital resource for families seeking inpatient hospice care.

“Care Dimensions does incredibly important work for the communities they serve,” said Tyler Virden, vice president and project executive of Windover Construction. “In building the Hospice House in Lincoln, we were challenged with creating a space that would provide both the comforts of home for patients and families, and the equipment needed in a state-of-the-art medical facility.”

The commercial project was built with residential finishes, featuring 75,000 hand-dipped red cedar shingles and giant custom glass walls overlooking the Cambridge Reservoir for a tranquil experience. Located on 12 acres of land on the Waltham line, the property offers extensive gardens, walkways, and masonry walls repurposed from ledge excavated at the site.

Inside are high-end design elements including floor-to-ceiling millwork, stone floors, fireplaces, art installations, and accents such as built-in window benches for the comfort of visitors. To add to the aesthetic quality of the interior, Windover coordinated with SV Design, Siemasko + Verbridge the deCordova Museum and local artists to incorporate fine artwork into the construction. The interior also features a contemplation room, children’s rooms, chapel and comfortable kitchen/dining spaces. Each patient room includes a sofa bed so family members can stay overnight; 10 rooms also include a garden patio.

“Windover exceeded our expectations in completing the Hospice House, a much-needed resource for the MetroWest area,” Care Dimensions CEO and President Patricia Ahern said. “Their teamwork and problem-solving made them a trusted partner throughout the process. We’re all inspired by the final product.”

Windover managed both preconstruction and construction and worked alongside EGA Architects of Newburyport and SV Design,Siemasko + Verbridge of Beverly, who designed the interiors.

The new facility is one of six inpatient hospice houses in the Commonwealth, including Care Dimensions’ Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, the first licensed hospice house in the state, which opened in 2005.
