Armstrong honored with Governor's Award Of Excellence

Lancaster, Pa. – Armstrong Flooring is proud to announce the honor of receiving the 2014 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence, presented by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, for  the Armstrong® Reclamation Program for Vinyl Composition Tile.

The Governor’s Award is the highest Pennsylvania statewide honor bestowed upon a business or organization for environmental performance and innovation.

“We are delighted that the Armstrong® Reclamation Program was recognized by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council,” said Amy Costello, Sustainability Manager for Commercial Flooring. “Armstrong considers the environment from the design of the product through the end of life, and with our reclamation program we are able to further reduce the environmental impacts of our VCT products, and this award confirms that we are on the right path.”

Designed to reduce environmental impacts, Armstrong recycles reclaimed VCT from multiple manufacturers, not only do we reclaim Armstrong VCT we reclaim qualifying competitors VCT in order to keep more products out of landfills. When the program began, the Armstrong Reclamation Program for VCT was the first and only program of its kind to reclaim Armstrong VCT and qualifying competitive VCT flooring products from demolition and renovation projects.  The Reclamation Program also helps reduce environmental impacts by decreasing the energy consumption, less use of natural resources and reduced gas emissions, through use of virgin raw materials.

Under the program, VCT flooring is recycled in a closed-loop, post-consumer stream with reclaimed material incorporated into new flooring products.  Since 2007, Armstrong has successfully reclaimed and recycled over 5 million pounds of post-consumer VCT in North America and 7,000 pounds in Pennsylvania.

The Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence are presented each year by the Department of Environmental Protection to highlight the best in environmental innovation and expertise throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Armstrong was presented with the Governor’s Award on April 22 at a ceremony in Harrisburg, PA.
