The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and the University of Pittsburgh Center for Behavioral Health and Smart Technology will present The Second Integrative Conference on Technology, Social Media, and Behavioral HealthSeveral selected finalists competing in our National Innovation Contest will pitch their ideas for solving the “Inventor’s Dilemma” for cost-lowering health care technology before a distinguished panel of health care entrepreneurs, executives, and venture capitalists for cash prizes and the opportunity to take their ideas to the next level on Thursday, November 11. Finalists in the competition include:

- Innovative Use of Technology: Early Mood Diagnosis, (University of Pittsburgh)

- Precision Health at Its Best: An eCare App for Patients with Multiple Chronic Conditions (Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center)

- PreventHIV Games – a videogame intervention for HIV preventions - University of Miami Miller School of Medicine)

- Tiba Health: A Wearable Digital Health Platform to Improve Patient Outcomes Following Joint Replacement Physical Therapy (Tiba Health, Durham, NC)

- Xogo: Access and Rehabilitation Through Technology (Bansen Labs, Pittsburgh)

Both days will feature breakout sessions on a broad range of subjects, including:  Using Mobile Technology to Support Self-Management of Chronic Disorders, Field Interventions for Promoting Healthier Food Choices and The Evolution of Socio-Behavioral Research Projects

On Friday, November 11th, the event will feature a keynote address by Dr. William T. Riley, Director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research at the NIH, and by Dr. Mitesh S. Patel, Director of Penn Medicine Nudge Unit and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Health Care Management at the University of Pennsylvania along with panel discussions, and concurrent breakout sessions.

 The Conference is designed to bridge silos and bring together individuals from across the University of Pittsburgh’s Schools of the Health Sciences, the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, the School of Information Sciences, UPMC, Carnegie Mellon University, area foundations, venture capitalists, and the local health care start-up community.

The Center for Behavioral Health and Smart Technology is a cross-disciplinary group formed in 2015 within the Center for Research on Health Care and the University’s Department of Medicine to facilitate research and to improve population health that lies at the intersection of clinical medicine, computer science, health services research, and healthcare delivery.
