New Mexico hospital to remodel patient rooms

Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe will also be constructing 36 new patient rooms

Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe will be remodeling its patient rooms as well as constructing 36 new ones, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.

The hospital will convert all adult patient rooms to private rooms. The new rooms will also be private.

The single-patient rooms will be about the same size as current double-patient rooms. With only one bed in the room, the hospital will be able to better accommodate furniture and equipment, as well as make room for more visitors, the article said.

Christus St. Vincent is following a trend toward room design that reduces infection, provides more privacy and better sleep, Dr. John Beeson, chief medical officer, said.

“Research clearly shows that private rooms cut down on infection and promote faster healing,” Beeson said.
