R-D Rapid Disinfector Outperforms Competitive UV-C Disinfection System in an Independent Study

A new independent study demonstrates that the Steriliz R-D™ Rapid Disinfector™ is the proven ultraviolet-C (UV-C) disinfection solution of choice for combating pathogens that cause healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

Published in the March issue of the American Journal of Infection Control, the peer-reviewed study of UV-C disinfection systems detailed the pilot testing and experiences of Vancouver General Hospital and Rochester General Hospital. According to the study, both hospitals selected the R-D Rapid Disinfector over a competitive system because of its shortest average treatment time, dose-based monitoring, metrics-driven data tracking, pause and reposition capability to illuminate shadowed areas, and easy maneuverability.

Steriliz’s R-D Disinfector is the only UV-C system available that measures, records and reports data for hospitals to gauge effectiveness. The R-D uses patented remote sensors that measure and ensure delivery of published UV-C doses at all points of disinfection. The R-D works in conjunction with manual cleaning to eradicate bacteria, viruses and spores, such as MRSA, VRE and Clostridium difficile.

“Hospitals and outpatient care facilities across the country need automated ultraviolet-C disinfectant systems to reduce the risk of HAIs among their patients,” said Steriliz President and CEO Sam Trapani. “This independent study is the latest proof that when it comes to patient safety and effectiveness in eliminating microorganisms, the R-D Rapid Disinfector is the gold standard in UV-C systems.”

Michelle Vignari, RN, CIC, director of infection prevention and disaster preparedness at UR Medicine Thompson Health, said, “Our system, the R-D Rapid Disinfector by Steriliz, is the only system that has patented sensors which measure the amount of UV-C light delivered to an area, ensuring the correct dose to kill the hardest of organisms is achieved.”

The AJIC article, “A model for choosing an automated ultraviolet-C disinfection system and building a case for the C-suite: Two case reports,” is available on the AJIC website or on the Steriliz website.
