2017 IUVA World Congress Spotlights Water Disinfection Technologies


Leading experts from around the world gathered for the International Ultraviolet Association's (IUVA) 9th biennial World Congress, September 17-20 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The event featured over 100 presentations on the science and application of ultraviolet technology (UV). "With the increased global urgency to effectively deal with environmental quality issues, the event attracted delegates from 24 countries to discuss a wide range of critical topics related to how UV science and technology can help address such concerns," says Oliver Lawal, AquiSense Technologies, and President of IUVA.

At the event, Mr. Lawal, Founder, President and CEO of AquiSense Technologies assumed the Presidency of IUVA.  In addition,  Professor Ron Hofmann, University of Toronto, was named the incoming president; Katherine Bell, MWH/Stantec becomes immediate past president; and Jennifer Osgood with CDM Smith is now the IUVA Secretary.  Newly elected board members include: Roberta Hofman-Caris, KWR Watercycle Research Institute, the Netherlands; Richard Joshi, ATG UV Technology the UK; Eva Nieminski, State of Utah Department of Environmental Quality; and Paul Ropic, Aquionics, Inc.  The event also featured a gala awards dinner, with several IUVA members recognized for their contributions to the advancement of UV technologies. Dr. Regina Sommer, Medical University of Vienna, was recognized for her contributions with the IUVA Lifetime Achievement.  "The IUVA World Congress is a vital opportunity to gather the global community interested in water disinfection technologies," says Katherine Bell, MWH/Stantec, IUVA immediate past President.  "The energy and collaborative environment at the event is a testament to the growing importance of UV technologies."
