56% Of Healthcare Facilities Did Not Meet National Cybersecurity Standards In 2019

Added technologies and an increased focus on existing ones is recommended


The percent of  healthcare facilities that did not meet national cybersecurity standards rose slightly in 2019, according to an article on the Healthcare Dive website.

Fifty-six percent did not meet standards last year, according to an annual report from consulting firm CynergisTek. That's up from 55 percent noncompliance in 2017 and 53 percent in 2018.

The report found declines in four of the five core functions: identify, protect, respond and recover. The last core function, detect, remained flat.

Because remote work and telehealth is expected to continue and grow added technologies and an increased focus on existing ones will be needed.

There has been a significant increase in ransomware attempts against organizations responding to the pandemic, according to an article on the Built in website.

The pandemic pushed hospital staff that were able to work remotely — departments like vendor support and administration — into the home office. Healthcare cybersecurity experts usually urge keeping as much activity inside the firewall of the facility as possible.
