AGT's Health Risk Management System effective in eliminating MERS virus

South Bend, Indiana – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently confirmed the second case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus to hit the United States was diagnosed in a healthcare worker who had traveled from Saudi Arabia to Orlando, Florida. MERS was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and since then, it has been sweeping across the Arabian Peninsula infecting people from the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait and Yemen.

Symptoms include severe acute respiratory illness with fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Of those infected, 30% have died.

American Green Technology® (AGT) manufactures the Health Risk Management System (HRMS), a patented lighting product clinically proven to eliminate 99.7% of airborne pathogens which cause Healthcare-associated Infections (HAIs). This innovative UVC system provides unobtrusive protection 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

Dr. Wladyslaw Kowalski, one of the world’s foremost authorities on hospital airborne infection control has completed a Genomic Analysis of the MERS virus and has determined that the HRMS will be highly effective in eliminating the MERS virus. Additionally, he has evaluated the effectiveness of the HRMS in neutralizing MERS and in his study writes, “The HRMS will virtually sterilize the airstream of any airborne MERS virus.” In an interview with Dr. Kowalski following the release of his study he states, “The HRMS would be very effective against the MERS virus. My calculations indicate nearly a 100% removal rate of the MERS virus, and this will be mostly due to UV disinfection and, to a lesser degree, removal by the integral MERV filter. In multiple passes, we could expect complete eradication in a relatively short amount of time.”

Both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the CDC recommend that healthcare facilities utilize airborne precautions, in addition to standard and contact precautions to deal with the possible spread of MERS, because of the similarity between the MERS Coronavirus and SARS Coronavirus, which is known to be transmitted through the air.
