The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Genesee County Health Department and federal health officials have opened an investigation into how a patient developed Legionnaires' disease while a patient at McLaren Flint hospital, according to an article on the Crain's Detroit Business website.
The hospital has acknowledged for the first time that a patient may have acquired the disease at the facility.
MDHHS said the investigation is part of an ongoing review of several Legionnaires' cases reported in 2018 and 2019 with exposure histories that involve the hospital.
Legionella bacteria can grow and be spread through air conditioners and window units, showers, hot tubs and decorative fountains.
