A New York hospital was placed on lockdown for several hours after a relative of a patient threatened staff with weapons after locking himself in a room with his 97-year-old mother after allegedly learning she was going to be transferred to another facility, the Times Union reports.

Dino Savoca of Colonie, New York was in possession of a BB gun and a shot gun. No shots were fired, Spectrum News reports. Albany Medical Center said that patients continued to receive care. Despite the emergency room going into lockdown, it was still able to receive patients.

“Our staff is resilient. They’ve faced a lot of challenges in the last couple of years,” Albany Medical Center spokesperson Matt Markham said in a statement to Channel News 13. “Tonight is just another example of how hard they work, and how everybody really looks after each other here at Albany Medical Center.”

Police spent five hours negotiating with Savoca and was taken into police custody at 7:15 p.m., Spectrum News reports.
