Break-out at mental health facility prompts door upgrade

A N.Z. facility is replacing wooden doors leading to high-care areas in Hillmorton Hospital's acute inpatient unit

New Zealand's Canterbury District Health Board (DHB) is replacing wooden doors leading to high-care areas in Hillmorton Hospital's acute inpatient unit with metal ones following a break-out, according to an article on the Stuff website.

A mental health patient who smashed their way through a set of locked doors in a Christchurch inpatient unit has prompted the review of security.

The wooden doors leading to four high care areas will be replaced with metal ones.

A nurse at the hospital, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the incident was symptomatic of wider safety concerns for staff.
