CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Siemens' third annual engineering innovation award

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:

WHAT: Siemens’ third annual engineering innovation award for fire and life safety design

WHEN: Now through March 31, 2016

HOW: Go to www.usa.siemens.com/eiaward for details

Consulting specifying engineers seldom get the recognition they deserve in keeping buildings and those who occupy them safe. But Siemens wants to change that.

Siemens recently opened submissions for its third annual Siemens Engineering Innovation Award, which recognizes innovative thinking and problem solving in fire and life safety system design. All consulting specifying engineering firms that have incorporated Siemens fire and life safety technologies into an innovative design are eligible for nomination.

Examples of innovation may range from new applications of existing technology, to cost-effective design solutions, to meeting unique building or construction requirements. The winning entry will demonstrate an innovative solution that solved a customer’s difficult challenge or advanced the use of technology in this field.

Last year’s winner, Gulf States Engineering, Inc. of Mobile, Ala., used an innovative design approach that incorporated Siemens’ FireFinder® XLS fire alarm panel into Airbus America’s final assembly facility at the Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile, Ala.

To nominate a firm that has used Siemens solutions innovatively in fire and life safety system specifications, go to www.usa.siemens.com/eiaward. All nominations must be submitted in full no later than March 31. Siemens will present the 2016 Siemens Engineering Innovation Award on the evening of June 13 at the Siemens Engineers’ Reception, with transportation provided from the 2016 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Convention & Expo in Las Vegas. The winner need not be present to win.

The winning firm’s name will be engraved on a plaque on the front of the award. The one-of-a-kind award, which was commissioned with Waterford Crystal in Ireland, is a replica of a traditional fire alarm pull box.
