The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued new recommendations to help prevent the spread of C. auris, an emerging multidrug-resistant yeast that causes invasive infections and is transmitted in healthcare settings, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare website.
The CDC's recommendations include:
• Screening patients/residents in hospitals or nursing homes who were close contacts to detect transmission
•Cleaning and disinfecting the rooms of patients with C. auris each day using an EPA-registered disinfectant effective against Clostridium difficile spores
