The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has estimated that the flu has caused 29 million illnesses, 280,000 hospitalizations and 16,000 deaths so far this season, according to its latest report.
The flu hospitalization rate increased to 47.4 per 100,000 population, which falls in line with trends from previous flu seasons.
Forty-four states are still experiencing high flu-like illness activity in the week ending Feb. 15.
Four states are experiencing moderate activity, and Alaska and Idaho are experiencing minimal activity.
