A bedbug infestation in the ED at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, Calif, prompted an emergency call to an exterminator, according to an article on the Visalia Times-Delta website.
Hospital officials say the infestation, caused when a patient brought bedbugs into the facility, didn't greatly disrupt emergency medical services.
To prevent the spread of infestation, Kaweah Delta staff and a pest control company treated the emergency rooms and surrounding areas. Patients were transferred between rooms while infested areas were treated, the article said.
According to Rentokil.com, an international pest control service, because hospital emergency departments have a high turnover rate, the emergency rooms and exam rooms are at a higher risk for bedbug infestations.
