The fungus infection is on the rise worldwide
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are reporting that the cases of Candida auris now totals 587 in the U.S., according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control and Clinical Leadership website.
The CDC calls the fungus "a serious global health threat."
Candida auris spreads in healthcare settings through contact with contaminated environmental surfaces or equipment and from person to person.
New York, Illinois and New Jersey have seen the highest number of cases as of Feb. 28.
