Changes in interior design education focus

Some interior design schools creating more education options for healthcare specialties

Some interior design schools are creating more education options for healthcare specialties by offering additional certificates and degrees, according to an article on the Contract website.

Stephen F. Austin’s online Master’s in Healthcare Interior Design and New York School of Interior Design’s (NYSID) Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Healthcare are two examples.

The impetus for the new healthcare graduate program came from design professionals, the article said.

At NYSID, multiple classes collaborate each semester with shared goals, such as improved patient outcomes and infection control.

Specialized education programs like these examples may open the door to more interior designers as healthcare planners, a role typically exclusive to architects, the article said.
