Fire marshals and local and state building oversight officials primarily use the International Code Council’s (ICC’s) family of model codes, including the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Fire Code (IFC), according to an article on the Health Facility Management website.

When the model codes were unified in 2000, it was the first time a healthcare representatives came together to discuss code changes that positively affect hospitals.
Code changes have since been developed for both the IBC and the IFC, and many passed for the 2015 versions.
