Construction on Royal Liverpool Hospital continues

New hospital is expected to open in summer 2017 and current hospital will be demolished

Construction on Royal Liverpool Hospital continues one year after the project started, with the new hospital expected to open in the summer of 2017, according to an article on the Liverpool Echo.

Once the new hospital is finished, the current hospital will be demolished and a new bio-campus, which will create up to 5,000 jobs in scientific research, will be built.

The new hospital will contain 646 beds, all in individual en-suite rooms, spread across 23 wards.

Helen Jackson, director of strategy and transformation at the hospital, said: “The new Royal will enable us to transform the way in which we care for patients.

“Having all single rooms for inpatients will not only provide greater privacy and dignity for them and a much better experience of care, it will also help to improve patient safety by enhancing the management of infection and reducing hospital-acquired infections.”
