Coronavirus complicates hurricane planning

Storm shelters have to be designed for social distancing


This year’s hurricane season, is coming in the middle of a pandemic, adding new complications to preparation effort, according to an article on the Beaumont Enterprise website.

For example, how  do you  maintain a proper social distance from one another in a storm shelter.

This year, planning is being done mostly virtually and with the understanding that plans must be even more flexible as information about coronavirus evolves quickly, according to the article.

Government officials already have started brainstorming how evacuations could happen should they become necessary. Port Arthur , Texas, for instance will likely will end up needing to designate certain buses or shelters for individuals who have or could have the virus and others for non-infected individuals.
