Coronaviruses can survive on surfaces for up to 9 days

Study finds virus remains infectious at room temperature for more than a week

Coronaviruses can survive on inanimate surfaces and remain infectious at room temperature for up to nine days, according to an article on the Becker's Clinical Leadership and Infection Control website.

A study published in the Journal of Hospital Infection analyzed 22 studies on coronaviruses, including SARS and MERS.

The research found that the viruses typically survive on surfaces between four and five days, but can remain infectious for up to nine days.

Low temperatures and high air humidity can increase the life of the virus.
