Cybersecurity, digital failures called top hospital hazards

The ECRI Institute releases its list of top healthcare technology hazards for 2018


The ECRI Institute compiled a list of top healthcare technology hazards for 2018, outlining major areas of concern, according to the Healthcare Analytics News website.

Topping this year’s list are ransomware and other cybersecurity threats. The full list from this year’s Top 10 Health Technology Hazards is:

1. Ransomware and other cybersecurity threats

2. Endoscope reprocessing failures

3. Infection risk from microbiological contaminants on mattresses and covers

4. Missed alarms from improperly configured systems

5. Improper cleaning of devices

6. Unholstered electrosurgical equipment

7. Inadequate use of digital imaging tools

8. Workarounds to bar-coded medication administration systems

9. Flaws in medical device networking

10. Slow adoption of safer enteral feeding connectors
