The Bridgepoint Active Healthcare Center in Toronto and the Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Center in Spokane, Wash., were honored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with 2015 Healthcare Design Awards, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.
The winning facilities incorporated an abundance of natural light into their designs.
The Bridgepoint Active Healthcare Center gave architectural expression to the salutogenic approach to healthcare which connects a person’s sense of physical and emotional wellbeing by providing access to nature and natural light.
Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center created clinical and public spaces that included graphics, art, comfortable furnishings and inspirational displays. The new design features a light-filled atrium.
