Healthcare facilities need a flexible clinical laboratory that blends innovative technologies with LEAN principles, according to an article on the Healthcare Symposium website. 

The ideal lab promotes collaboration and is flexible and easily modified. 

One of the most challenging issues with flexibility in the core lab is positioning services and utilities, the article said. 

Utilities and services routed down from the ceiling typically lead to service columns that obstruct the open lab space, and horizontal distribution prevents flexibility on the floor.
