The healthcare community is taking advantage of renewed awareness of the importance of infection prevention that the Ebola outbreak brought to educate each other on infection control, according to an article on the Medical Construction & Design website.

Planners and designers are on the frontlines in the effort, working with clinicians and facilities staff on ways to improve prevention, the article said.

At the pre-design stage, planning teams are developing programs to accommodate the hospital’s infection control goals. 

The plans can be as basic as providing sufficient numbers of well-located sinks or as complex as accommodating a biocontainment unit.
