Disinfecting robot can help fight HAIs

Studies demonstrate benefits and explore strategies for use

A recent study has explored some of the challenges to the implementation of deploying disinfecting robots to fight hospital-acquired infections —  and strategies to overcome them, according to an article on the Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry website.

Disinfecting robot employ short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (UVC), designed to disinfect an entire room in one cycle.

The technology is designed to be used after the room has been cleaned with traditional protocols.

A paper published in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, Implementation Lessons Learned From the Benefits of Enhanced Terminal Room (BETR) Disinfection Study: Process and Perceptions of Enhanced Disinfection with Ultraviolet Disinfection Devices, shared lessons for employing UVC disinfection.
