Drywall poses danger at max-security psych hospital

Patients are destroying the drywall and make weapons from materials found inside

Drywall is posing a danger at an Ontario maximum-security psychiatric hospital where patients are destroying the drywall and make weapons from materials found inside, according to an article on the Toronto Sun website.

Drywall was used at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishene to make accommodations look like dorm rooms for patients.

Forty to 50 rooms have been damaged since Ontario’s only maximum-security forensic hospital moved into the new Atrium building 16 months ago.

Workers say patients also smash their way into the ceiling, accessing wiring that can be used to harm themselves or others.
