Patient fatally shoots himself at Brooksville Regional Hospital after being involved in car accident.

Security concerns have been raised after a patient fatally shot himself at Brooksville Regional Hospital in Tampa Bay, Fla., according to an article on the WFTS website.

Authorities say 61-year-old had the loaded weapon on him as he was brought in by ambulance to the E.R. after a highway crash.

Questions have been raised about whether the shooter should have been checked for a weapon.

When asked about safety measures the hospital released the following statement: We have extensive security measures for a wide range of emergency situations but do not publicly disclose the details of these precautions in the interest of safety. We work with local law enforcement and conduct drills to prepare for potential scenarios and regularly review our security program to make adjustments as needed.
