Ebola efforts in Congo running short of money

Some fear situation will turn into a regional catastrophe


The fight against Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been slowed by conflict, politics and the weakness of the country’s health system.

Money should not be an issue in this sort of internationally led emergency response, according to an article on the Economist website, but it is.

If the Ebola spreads, it could become a multi-billion dollar headache for the world. But resources are stretched thin for its response in Congo.

Since February, it has received half the funding needed to fight the outbreak, and has now all but used up an emergency fund.
