Elevon outfitted with weathering steel facade that will enhance and beautify over time

Architectural facade designer and fabricator Dissimilar Metal Design (DMD) announces completion of a Weathering Steel façade fabrication for elevon at Campus El Segundo, the largest for sale commercial development to break ground in El Segundo in the last decade. The $100M project includes 210,000 square feet of “lifestyle” office space and 13,500 sqft of retail and dining areas. Elevon is set to house 15 two-story buildings with diverse tenants in the technology, creative, retail, dining and entertainment sectors, as well as being the future home for the L.A. Lakers training facility.

Fabricated by the team behind the Barclays Arena facade, the Weathering Steel facade was manufactured to pay homage to the industrial city's past, while embracing the area's burgeoning development. The warm rustic façade was patinated using DMD’s weathering technique, which mimics a natural aging cycle and will be further aided by the elements found within the regional coastal climate.

This unique pre-weathering process ensures a living finish that is self-healing and will continue to beautify with time. The project was designed by Steven Ehrlich in collaboration with Ware Malcomb and constructed by Lusardi. Construction is set to be complete in Spring 2015.
