Elizabethkingia bacteria found in a baby in Wisconsin

The CDC and State Department of Hygiene did not recommend culturing any additional patients or hospital staff


Elizabethkingia bacteria has been found in a baby, who is now being treated at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wis., according to an article on the WTMJ-4 website. 

There's no indication of a serious infection in the infant.

The bacteria is not spread through air and is destroyed by following proper hand-washing protocols, according to the hospital.

The CDC and State Department of Hygiene did not recommend culturing any additional patients or staff at the time of the announcement.
