Background checks are among the first items to get cut when money is tight, but they are key to a healthcare facility security plan, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.

Sometimes a facility will delay a thorough background check on a candidate to see how he or she will function on the job first, the article said.

Others forego the process entirely, or perform a cursory investigation. 

These choices can expose an organization to greater losses than the initial cost of conducting thorough background checks.
