Inspira Health announced the opening of its expanded maternity unit at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, marking a major milestone in the health system’s broader campus expansion.
The expanded unit increases capacity for maternity patients and provides an environment designed to support families through labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care. The project doubles the size of the hospital’s maternity area to approximately 36,000 square feet and increases staffed maternity beds from 20 to 38.
The expanded maternity unit supports a dedicated flow from arrival through delivery and recovery.
The maternity expansion is part of Inspira’s larger $257 million expansion and renovation of Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill. In addition to the maternity overbuild adjacent to the hospital’s main entrance, the project includes the full development of a new 150,000-square-foot, five-story tower; increased surgical and intensive care capacity; expanded space for clinical education and residency programs; renovation of existing areas and additional parking.
Since the expansion began, Inspira has broadened the project’s scope to fully develop the five-story tower rather than hold space in reserve. The expanded plans include an additional 32-bed surgical unit, additional intensive care capacity, and specialized neuro ICU resources to support Inspira’s growing neuroscience partnership with Cooper University Health Care. Once complete, the project is expected to add 86 beds, increasing the hospital’s licensed bed count to 296, and add a 24-bed observation unit to improve patient flow and reduce emergency department boarding.
The new five-story tower is expected to begin patient care in early 2027, followed by additional renovations to existing hospital space for clinical, dining and pharmacy services.
