Experts urge healthcare facilities to review safety plans

The recent shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago that left a police officer, a doctor and a pharmacy resident dead demonstrates the difficulty of keeping healthcare facilities safe, according to an article on the Fox 59 website.

Safety experts say healthcare facilities are already challenging to keep secure and current design trends have only made it more difficult.

Cutting down on which entrances are open to the public, creating an “active shooter action plan,” and practicing that plan regularly are paramount for hospitals to maintain security are key.

Planning and practice are the best weapons for all employees so that they know where to go and what to do.
